baby sleeping peacefully

Hello! Tired Mama!

I’ve been around the block as a mom, and I know how valuable a good night’s sleep is for your baby (and you).

So, if you’re a new parent wanting to make your baby’s sleep time super cozy and peaceful, you’re in the right spot.

In this article, I’ll be your guide and show you eight things that have helped me and my baby sleep well.

You and your little one need these must-haves to get that important sleep.

“Important note: Not all babies respond to anything similarly. If something worked for my baby, it doesn’t guarantee that it will work for yours as well. Explore the products and get what you think will suit your baby”.

Let’s get started!

1- Soothing projectors:

Soothing projectors are a great aid for a baby’s good night’s sleep. They are so calming and comforting. Turning on the projectors daily at the same time at night will help you sleep-train your child as the baby can associate the projector lights with sleeping.

The moving and changing images on the ceiling and the walls can capture the baby’s attention. They will be easier to soothe. The baby can go to sleep by watching the starry images while lying.

The lights of the night projector are very dim; they won’t disturb your baby’s sleep.

Many night projectors come with a built-in white noise machine with adjustable volume. So a projector also replaces night lights and white noise machines.

I suggest Fisher-Price machine. It has all the great features required for a baby’s perfect sleep and it can be connected with an app for easy monitoring.

2- Chamomile oil:

Chamomile does wonders. No doubt. It’s a known herb for its soothing benefits and its very safe for babies.

It reduces stress, calms down the babies, and has sleep-inducing properties.

I swear by chamomile. Rub the chamomile oil on your baby’s body. Especially, massage it on the soles of the feet. You will see the wonders.

This oil is also very effective in calming down the baby when they are teething.

According to a study, chamomile oil reduces crying and fussiness in babies. The topical use of chamomile is even effective in reducing colic in young infants.

Zarbee’s chamomile baby oil is an excellent choice as it contains chamomile and lavender; both are known for their soothing properties.

3- Aromatherapy:

Aromatherapy can be very helpful for a baby’s peaceful sleep. Lots of moms agree that essential oils help their babies to sleep faster and more peacefully.

In a study done, it was stated, “The use of aromatherapy massage using lavender oil was found to be effective in reducing the symptoms of colic.”

Another study proved that the scent of lavender oil helped the mom and the baby become more relaxed. The study proved that the cortisol level of the moms and babies (in the experiment) was significantly reduced).

Chamomile, lavender, and cedarwood essential oils are great for calming the baby and improving their sleep quality.

The best diffusion time (aromatherapy time) for babies is between 30-60 minutes.

4- Sleep sacks:

Sleep sacks are wearable blankets that are best to keep the baby comfortable while sleeping. These improve the sleep quality because of these features:

  • They regulate the temperature
  • It’s easier to change the diaper when the baby is wearing a sleep sack
  • The child may associate it with “sleeping”.

Choose a good sleep sack considering the fabric and temperature.

5- Blackout curtains:

If your baby sleeps in a room where outside light can disturb them, you must look into blackout curtains.

Babies sleep better in a dark room. They will wake up less and cry less.

Blackout curtains also regulate room temperature. So they are best to create a comfortable sleeping environment for both, kids and adults.

6- Soundproofing or White noise:

Soundproofing the door and the windows of the baby’s room can be really helpful for better sleep quality for your child.

Things like door draft stoppers, soundproof wall panels, or soundproof curtains can reduce the noise coming from outside.

Or you can mask the noise by using a white noise machine. This machine should be placed at least 6 to 7 feet away from the baby while the sound level should not exceed 50 db. [Source]

According to a study, “White noise may help mothers settle difficult babies.”

7- Baby Sleep guidebooks, logs, and planners:

Babies sleep very differently from adults. If you can read a good guidebook that helps you understand how a baby’s sleep works, you will be able to better manage it.

Things like baby logs and planners can help you a lot in tracking a baby’s sleep. So you can predict the schedule earlier and manage your routine according to that.

8- Lovey:

A lovey is an object that a baby uses for a sense of familiarity or security. It can be anything, a stuffed toy, a blanket, or a comfort object.

Lovey is safe to use when your baby is able to roll over or push the stuff away. It is recommended to avoid a lovey for babies below age 1.

You can get a small lovey (if your baby is old enough) to make them sleep peacefully.
